Rotational Assignment for Current DoD Intern
Human Capital Initiatives (HCI) is seeking a current Department of Defense (DoD) civilian intern to fill a rotational assignment in the USD(AT&L) Office of Human Capital Initiatives. The candidate will fill this rotational assignment and work closely with the USD(AT&L) staff. The candidate will be introduced to leadership and management practices of those in the highest level of the Department of Defense receiving first-hand insight into the reasons for the implementation of the professionalization of the Defense Acquisition Workforce. What is Defense Acquisition?

The Department of Defense (DoD) acquires goods and services from industry, federal arsenals, and shipyards fulfill the DoD needs for the use of or support of military missions. Acquisition is a budget term that applies to more than just the purchase of an item or service. The acquisition process encompasses the design, engineering, construction, testing, development, sustainment and disposal of weapons or related items purchased for the Department’s use.

The Defense Acquisition Workforce is comprised of over 153,000 civilian and military personnel with the shared mission of delivering world-class capabilities to the warfighter and protecting the tax-payer. There is a vast range of opportunities from all academic disciples and career experiences, with increasing opportunities for future employees with information technology, cyber, and science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) skills.

A program that provides an opportunity for students pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) disciplines to receive a full scholarship and be gainfully employed upon degree completion.   • Internship: The Pathways Internship Program provides selected students a paid opportunity (internship) with the Department of Defense while they are current enrolled high school, undergraduate or graduate school.

  • Recent Graduate: This program provides an opportunity for recent graduates (within two years of degree or certificate completion) to participate in a career development program with the potential for conversion to a permanent position.

  • Presidential Management Fellows: A highly competitive program for college graduates with advanced degrees (Master’s, Ph.D) that are selected for future leadership programs. The program requires 4-6 months of service with the option for conversion to a permanent position.
